Our Field Service Engineer search – How we successfully conducted this search to fill 2 roles based in the Netherlands within 6 weeks of project commencement.

Some people may think that a Field Service Engineer search maybe easy right? If you think this is the case then I thought I would give you a quick insight into a couple of searches that I have just successfully completed, just to give you an idea of the life of a recruiter.

Firstly, I love what I do, I am very fortunate to work with some amazing clients in a fascinating sector of Med-Tech (or so I think), working with incredible medical equipment where the outcomes can often be life and death…..people should be falling over themselves to work in this sector but it’s not always that simple!

Expectations for the right candidates are high in this sector; We need to find candidates who have the empathy to work with a range of medical professionals as well as having the ability to work on complex equipment with strong technical skillsets across mechanical, electronic & software engineering. They also have to have a zest for learning and an engaging enthusiastic nature, and be willing to go the extra mile to meet customer expectations.     Not a lot to ask right!

How did I conduct this search for 2 Field Service Engineers in the Netherlands?!

We were instructed on the projects on the 7th March and immediately started sourcing, filtering and targeting specific skill sets & knowledge bases to pick out the perfect profiles;

Some Numbers……..

  • I reviewed and ruled out 1,007 candidates who were not suitable despite supposedly meeting the search criteria.
  • I directly approached 108 candidates about the opportunity and chased a minimum of 2 times
  • I received 12 positive responsesDetailed registration carried out circa 30-45 minutes each.
  • 49 candidates replied but declined to open discussions due to being happy with current circumstances or achieving a better package (Sign of the times?)
  • 8 candidates passed registration, meeting expectation for submission.
  • 6 of the 8 were invited to initial interview, with 5 proceeding to stage 2 and a final 3 left to battle it out.
  • 2 candidates were offered and have recently started. – Have a look in my recommendations on here and I’m sure you will soon see them!

All in all that’s a lot of man hours but most importantly, one happy client and 2 delighted engineers who embark on a new journey in their career!

“That’s your job” I can hear some people saying….point taken but I guess what I’m trying to share is an insight into the depths we go to find talent. These were two successes, sometimes it can go unpaid unless it’s a retained search! Who works for free nowadays!?

I hope that this brief insight breaks the perspective that some people have regarding recruiters and the level of service that we can offer. Here at Prospect myself and my team take great pride is supporting our clients and love solving recruitment problems for them.
