Veterinary Surgeon

A state-of-the-art hospital in Bedford is looking to add a Small Animal Vet to their very experienced team!

An independent, state-of-the-art, veterinary hospital which is also the Royal Veterinary College's workplace teaching hospital. This means you have access to the specialist vet services, knowledge, research, and training available at the RVC so you can work to a very high standard and develop your skills, experience, and qualifications in the areas that interest you.

The level of development you can achieve at this practice is shown by the existing team of twelve vets including Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Surgery, Companion Animal Behaviour, Zoological Medicine, and Small Animal Medicine, as well as certificate holders in Veterinary Education, Dentistry, and one who is completing their studies in Diagnostic Imaging. If teaching is what you enjoy, there is also the possibility of developing a teaching career with the practice happy to support and fund a PgCert in Veterinary Education.

As you would expect, the facilities are excellent with the hospital being an ISFM Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic. Equipment also includes Doppler ultrasound, digital x-ray, laparoscopy, blood pressure, full in-house lab, blood gas analysis and tonometer, gastroscopy and bronchoscopy, Dental suite with digital dental x-ray, TPLO kit, PAX locking plate system, and MicroAire drill/saw.


Key Duties

  • Full-time equals 4 days per week
  • Mixture of consults, ops, and working as a support vet (emergencies and repeat prescriptions only)
  • You can leave when you finish your consults and procedures if it's before your shift end
  • 1/4 Saturdays (08:30-16:00)
  • One weeknight every other week on call
  • One weekend on call every two months
  • After 11pm the RCV takes over the phone lines and on-call will be for in-patients only
  • No Bank Holidays
  • The practice is a rotation placement for RVC students so there are opportunities for workplace teaching
